On a Saturday morning in July 1987, Rob Thomas' life changed forever.

A framer working on a construction site in Newmarket New Hampshire, Rob's day started out like many others. He and his co-workers were awaiting the arrival of a crane to finish placing roof trusses on a near-finished apartment building. After retrieving a box of nails from a third story section of the building, Rob headed back to his crew. Tragically, however, Rob stumbled and fell through an unguarded, open stairwell causing massive injuries to his skull and spine. The fall left the 24 year old a quadriplegic.

With the help of the attorneys at Cook & Molan, Rob filed suit against the Construction Co. to recover his astronomical medical bills and for his pain and suffering and loss of use of his arms and legs. Rob also wanted to do what he could to prevent this kind of tragedy in the future --- Cook & Molan had learned that Rob's fall was the third of its kind on job sites run by the same Construction Company.

The insurance company, as expected, resisted Rob's claim aggressively. 'It's not our fault', they said, 'Rob should have been more careful'. Unable to settle out of court, Cook and Molan presented Rob's case to a jury -- a trial that lasted 17 days.

With a thundering reminder that our jury system works, the jury awarded Rob 12.5 million dollars, a verdict that was reported to be the largest in New Hampshire history.

Rob's recovery has helped him live a full and productive life. The amazing Rob Thomas, now married, races stock cars at Lee Speedway and recently received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from New England College.

Rob's is a success story indeed!
